How can I stop a foreclosure on my house?
Is chapter 13 the only way?
No, chapter 13 bankruptcy is not the only option. Here is a pretty good website about avoiding foreclosure. It has info about foreclosure lending scams, foreclosure timeline, some step-by-step things you can do to stop foreclosure, and some advice on how to delay the eviction process after a foreclosure sale:

You could also pay the mortgage as you agreed. It works every time.
Bankruptcy only delays the foreclosure, it does not stop it.

If the amount owed on the loan is reasonable for the current market, try to find an investor to buy the home or contact a real estate agent to help you sell quickly, possibly talk your lender into short selling(less than amount owed).
